Results from the Tri-Series (Taree Round 3rd November 2018 & Overall) and Akubra Classic 4th November 2018

Posted on November 6, 2018 by Administrator

The Taree round of the Tri-Series (between Taree, Gunnedah and Kempsey Motorcycle Clubs) held on Saturday 3rd November 2018 at the Taree Motorcycle Club complex on Old Bar Road, Pampoolah was well attended with plenty of racing action in approximately seventy (70) races.

While the rider entries and spectators numbers were affected to a degree by Kempsey’s Akubra Classic to be held the next day, all three clubs were represented by riders, support crews and spectators.

After sign-in closed, Taree Motorcycle Club Vice-President, Samantha Pauline-Lennon, took the Riders’ Briefing, welcoming the visitors, clarifying rules and setting out expectations for a safe event.

Gunnedah Motorcycle Club’s President, Anthony Dall, then spoke to the assembled group, thanking the Taree club for holding the event and all riders and spectators for their attendance. Anthony also voiced his support for the ongoing connection of the three clubs into the future through the Tri-Series and the enjoyment that can be gained from participating, particularly for the Juniors.

Without detracting from the strengths and achievements of the Taree and Kempsey clubs, the positive influence that a sporting club can have was obvious in the Gunnedah club on Saturday. The Club had travelled a long distance. There was camaraderie between the members. Along with the skill of the riders from Gunnedah, the closely meshed nature of this club and strong support of each other can be considered to have made a significant contribution to their Tri-Series (and other) successes over many years. Additionally, they always showed a sporting and friendly attitude to the other competitors and supporters.

On Saturday, Taree Motorcycle Club welcomed Australian Champion, #7 Marty McNamara (riding for Gunnedah), to the Taree round of the Tri-Series – particularly as he was entered in the Akubra meeting of the next day. While Marty met with some challenges from the other competitors, getting the hole shots and clocking quick lap times gained him race and class wins which reflected the standard of riding Marty displayed on Saturday.

The results also show repeat podium finishes, not only for Marty, but for Gunnedah father and son, Anthony and Jordan Dall.

Of additional interest on the day was the #195 sidecar, with rider Jim Jobling and passenger Ben Gardner. While some mechanical issues had the pair stationed in the pits for some time, when out on the track, Jim and Ben entertained the spectators with skilful handling of their machine. Taree Motorcycle Club looks forward to sidecar #195 (and a number of other sidecars) exciting the crowd at the Club’s Twilight meeting in mid-January 2019.

As well as the regular members of the three motorcycle clubs competing on the day, two families travelled from the Gold Coast to take part in the meeting – one family raced with Taree and the other with Gunnedah. TMC acknowledges the distance they travelled and appreciated their attendance on the day.

While the maximum temperature recorded for Saturday by the Bureau of Meteorology at Taree Airport was approximately 37˚ Celsius and 30˚C by 9:00am, on the oiled, dirt track and trackside on Old Bar Road, it was hotter. Yet a dedicated number of people, both officials and volunteers, took on the task of filling all the positions that were necessary for the race meeting to be held. TMC is most grateful to this willing group of people.

Taree Motorcycle Club congratulates Gunnedah Motorcycle Club 1st and Kempsey Motorcycle Club 2nd in the overall placings for the 2018 Tri-Series (two rounds only).

Additionally, TMC acknowledges the distance the Gunnedah club travelled to take part in the Tri-Series event.
